Nel bosco...
   
Ci troviamo nel cuore delle Serre, una catena montuosa che è riuscita a mantenere una grande suggestione e un’identità naturalistica più unica che rara nell’Appennino italiano; la presenza antropica molto rarefatta ne aumenta il senso di fiaba.  
   
Man mano che ci si addentra nel bosco ci si lascia progressivamente alle spalle la vegetazione di mezza costa per inoltrarsi nel folto della faggeta; e si viene quasi soggiogati dalla maestosità dei faggi e degli abeti secolari finché, abituati gli occhi all’attenuarsi della luce, la foresta si lascia conquistare dall’escursionista mostrando la sua ospitalità fatta di saporitissimi funghi, dolci fragoline di bosco, foglie e radici che sembrano realizzazioni d’artista. Uno dei percorsi più significativi si svolge nel territorio del comune di Arena, a circa 32 chilometri dal capoluogo di provincia, e comprende una escursione in località chiamata Faggio del Re, di cui si può già ammirare la splendida vallata, caratterizzata da terrazzi coltivati i cui colori vanno dal verde intenso dei prati-pascoli e delle leccete al verde argenteo degli olivi; la primavera offre invece colori più vivaci, che vanno dal giallo intenso della ginestra al bianco dell’erica e della robinia fino al verde-bruno del castagno. Scarsa è la presenza di case abitate da pastori, dove si possono gustare ottime ricotte e formaggi, ma non è difficile incontrare i carbonai intenti ad erigere le loro costruzioni a cupola col legname tagliato o spaccato in pezzature sorprendentemente costanti. Salendo alle quote maggiori si notano recenti rimboscamenti di abete bianco, mentre nella vegetazione spontanea spiccano gruppi di farnie interrotti qua e là da secolari esemplari isolati di abete bianco.
     
Le long du bois ...
La chaîne des montagnes des Serre garde une identité naturelle suggestive et éblouissante dans les Appennins, accrue par la rare installation humaine. En s’enfonçant au dedans du bois on laisse aux épaules la végétation temperée et on peut admirer la drue hêtraie, soumis à la grandeur des hêtres et des sapins séculaires jusqu’au moment où les yeux s’habituent à la lueur pâle et la forêt se dévoile à l’excursioniste: elle montre ses savoureux champignons, ses petites fraises de bois, ses feuilles, ses racines qui ressemblent à des décorations. Le parcours le plus important se déroule dans le territoire de la bourgade Arena à 32 km environ du chef-lieu de province et établit une excursion autour d’une localité nommée Faggio del Re (Hêtre du Roi), dont on peut admirer la merveilleuse vallée aux bandes cultivées qui offre différentes tonalités de vert, des prés-pâtis et des bois de chênes vertes aux oliviers vert-pâle; au printemps les couleurs changent, du genêt jaune d’or à la bruyère blanche du robinier jusqu’au brun clair du châtaignier. Les cabanes des bergers où l’on peut goûter d’excellents fromages, se rencontrent peu souvent, au contraire on peut voir des charbonniers qui construisent des maisonnettes de bois. En remontant on peut admirer des boisements de seculaires sapins blancs et dans la végétation naturelle des chênes majesteux.
 
In the thick wood ...  
We are in the heart of the Serre, a mountain chain preserving a great suggestion and a naturalist identicalness rare to the point of being unique in the Italian Apennines; the anthropic presence very rarefied increases the sense of a tale. Little by little we enter in the wood, we leave the vegetation of the half coast to ri-enter in the thick of the beech wood; and we are subjugated by the majesty of the beeches and of the centuries-old silver firs till, accustomed the eyes to attenuate of the light, the forest leaves to conquer itself by the excursionist showing its hospitality made by tasty mushrooms, sweet wood strawberries, leaves and roots like artistic works. One of the most meaningful routes happens in the territory of the commune of Arena, about 32 km from the administrative centre, and encloses a trip in a locality called Faggio del Re, whose it can admire the bright valley, characterized by terraces cultivated and with colours from intense green of the meadows-pastures and of the ilex-grove to silver green of olives; but the spring offers most lively colours, from intense yellow of the broom to the white of the heath and of the locust till the greenbrown of the chestnut. Scarce is the presence of inhabited houses by shepherds, where we can taste a very good ricotta and cheeses, but it is not difficult to meet the coalmen ready to erect their dome constructions with the cut wood or split in pieces surprisingly constant. By climbing towards higher places, we note recent reforestation of white silver fir, while in the spontaneous vegetation detach groups of bay-oak interrupted here and there by centuries-old exemplary isolated of white silver fir.
 
Im dicken Wald ...
 
Wir befinden uns im Herzen der Serre. Sie sind eine Gebirgskette, die einen großen Eindruck und eine naturwissenschaftliche Identität im Laufe der Zeit verteidigt hat, die mehr einzigartig als selten im italienischen Apennin ist; die menschliche Anwesenheit läßt diesen Platz wie eine Fabel erscheinen. Wenn man in den Wald eindringt, verlässt man die Rippenvegetation und man dringt in den Buchenwald ein. Und man wird von der Hoheit der Buchen und der Tannenbäume fast beherrscht, bis wann der Ausflügler sich von der Gastfreundschaft des Waldes gewinnen läßt. Die Gastfreundschaft des Waldes ist von schmackhaften Pilzen, Walderdbeeren, Blättern und Wurzeln gemacht, die wie künstlerische Werke erscheinen. Eine der bedeutendsten Fahrt findet in Arena statt, das zirka 32 Kilometer von seiner Provinzhauptstadt entfernt ist, und umfaßt die Gegend Faggio del re (Buche des Königs), wo man die wunderschöne Talebene bewundern kann, die von bebauten Terrassen mit starken und silberhellen Farben charakterisiert ist. Der Frühling bietet dagegen lebhafter Farben an, die von starkem Gelb des Ginsters bis zum Weiß der Erika und zum Braugrün der Kastanie gehen. Es gibt einige Bauernhäuser, wo man leckere Quark oder käse kosten kann. Wenn man hoch steigt, kann man eine Aufforstung weisses Tannenbaums bemerken, während in der Vegetation Gruppen von Sommereichen hervorstechen, die da und da von einzelnen Mustern weisser Tannenbäumen unterbricht werden.
